The average length of walking routes in the Ukrainian Carpathians is 23 682 meters. Ukraine, part of which is occupied by the Carpathian Mountains, was included in the list of the best countries for hiking.
The corresponding ranking of the best and the worst countries for hiking in Europe was compiled by SaveOnEnergy, analyzed the routes in the AllTrails App.
In particular, Ukraine took the second place after Liechtenstein in the category «The best countries for hiking» - with an average height of 1220 meters.
Moreover, Ukraine got into the top 3 countries in Europe on long h mountain hikings - the average length of walking routes in the Ukrainian Carpathians is 23 682 meters.
However, the high positions of these two categories did not allow Ukraine to rise high in the overall ranking of the best countries in Europe for hiking - here the Ukrainian mountains got into the top 10 countries with the worst conditions for hiking (6th place). The researchers note that in addition to the duration of the routes and the height of the ascents, accompanying infrastructure, diversity of the route and landscape, complexity of the ascent and so on were also taken into account.
But Ireland, Iceland and Great Britain topped the ranking, although they are noticeably inferior to Ukraine in the length of routes and the height.
Hiking in the Ukrainian Carpathians
One of the most convenient for hiking in Ukraine is the Borzhavsky Ridge in the Carpathian region, which is just perfect for calm walks.
If you want something more extreme, you can go to Khomyak Mount in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
However, in any case, before hiking in the mountains you should familiarize learn the basic rules of behavior at the route.
